The RULFF project officially kicked off with a successful two-day meeting held on September 18–19, 2026, bringing together team members to map out the project’s future and explore Lisbon through a cinematic lens.
Day 1: Project Presentation and Planning
The event opened on Friday, September 18, with project presentation and discussions led by Célia Quico, followed by Marek Sulik and Peter Zakufansky who shared valuable insights from the Family Archive / Rodinne Archivy initiative, sparking ideas on how to apply lessons learned to RULFF.
In the afternoon, the team focused on defining Phase 1 details, including:
– Communication materials for upcoming campaigns
– Protocols for retrieval and digitization
– Selecting content for the Citizen Archive Portal-
The day wrapped up with a group dinner at the historic Cinemateca Portuguesa in Lisbon.
Day 2: Next Steps and “In the White City” Cine-Walk
On Saturday, September 19, the team gathered at Lusófona University’s main campus for strategic planning, next steps, and exploring opportunities for additional funding.
Following the morning sessions, participants took part in a informal cine-walk (cine-caminhada), tracing the footsteps of Alain Tanner’s classic 1983 film In the White City (Dans la ville blanche). Reversing the film’s narrative order, the walk started at Estação Ferroviária Santa Apolónia, continued through Alfama for a traditional Portuguese lunch on a scenic patio, and concluded with a beer at the iconic British Bar in Cais do Sodré.
